Biography: Erle Stanley Gardner was an American lawyer and author best known for creating one of the most famous characters in the annals of mystery fiction, Perry Mason. The Perry Mason series, which includes more than 80 novels and short stories, centers around its eponymous character, a criminal defense lawyer who was renowned for his ability to prove his clients' innocence.
Gardner's writing was significantly influenced by his legal career, which began when he passed the California bar exam in 1911. Although he worked as a lawyer for many years, Gardner found his true passion in writing. His first novel, The Case of the Velvet Claws, published in 1933, marked the beginning of the Perry Mason series. This series' popularity led to several adaptations, including a long-running television series and a number of films.
In addition to Perry Mason, Gardner also created other popular characters, such as private detective Donald Lam and hard-nosed District Attorney Doug Selby.
