Netflix Drops Squid Game Video Game Trailer: Were All Here to Have Fun

The trailer for Netflix‘s “Squid Game” multiplayer video game “Squid Game: Unleashed” was released out of the Gamescom video game convention Tuesday.

Per Netflix’s official description for the game: “Prepare for fast, heart-pounding action and brutal competition in this multiplayer battle royale game. Play with friends (or enemies) online and see if you have what it takes to outlast and defeat the other Players in each twisted Contest. With deadly challenges you’ll recognize from “Squid Game,” the series, and more new games inspired by classic childhood activities, each round is a dark trip down memory lane. Can you make it through playtime alive?”

The video game will drop in connection with the launch of “Squid Game” Season 2, which will debut Dec. 26 on Netflix, but no specific release date has been set yet. “Squid Game: Unleashed” will be playable through the Netflix app via iPhone’s App Store and the Google Play store.

Also revealed by Netflix during gamescom was new game “Monument Valley 3,” which launches exclusively from the streamer Dec. 10. Per Netflix, the first new title in the beloved franchise to release in more than a decade will let players “set sail in the beautiful universe that captured the imagination of millions and set a new standard for artistic and innovative mobile gaming.”

Netflix first announced plans for the then-untitled “Squid Game” video game in December, describing the title simply as one that will let you “compete with other players in games from the hit series.”

Over the past few years, Netflix has been ramping up its gaming division with more than 100 games released to date, including the internally developed “Oxenfree II: Lost Signals,” which was regarded by critics as one of the best games of 2023, “Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy,” and games based on hit Netflix IP like “Emily in Paris,” “Too Hot to Handle,” “Virgin River,” “Money Heist” and more. Netflix has more than 80 games currently in development, including a “Selling Sunset” mobile game.

Continuing its growth in gaming, Netflix recently hired Epic Games’ Alain Tascan as its new head of games and rolled out a test for games on TV and computers in several countries as part of its long-term strategy to make its games playable across all devices. During the company’s Q2 earnings call in July, Netflix execs promised one new video game would be launching every month from here on out.
