Brief biography
Tulisa was born in Camden Town, London on July 18, 1988 to a mother who was part of the 1980s band – Jeep alongside three of her sisters. Just five years old, her mother was divided under the Mental Health Act because she suffered from bipolar and schizoaffective disorder. She was then under the care of her uncle – Byron Contostavlos. At the age of fourteen, he enrolled her in the Quintin Kynaston Schoolat St John’s Wood, she however took her GCSE exams at Haverstock Secondary School, Haverstock, London.
Cousin – Dappy and Ndubz Split
Tulisa joined N-Dubz in 2000. The band was formed by her cousins Dappy and Fazer, who were already rapping together before deciding they wanted a female vocal in the band. So they implicated Tulisa. The group was then called Lickle Rinsers Crew before switching to N-Dubz and they began performing in their home town of Camden; soon their fame spread even beyond the city.
“You Better Not Waste My Time” was their first single to be released and was made available for download until they dropped their self-released single “I Swear” in 2006. Their second album Against All Odds was released in November 2009 and also reached the UK Albums Chart at number 6. In 2010 they signed with US label Record Jam and released their third studio album. Love.Live.Life under the label. The album became their third platinum album.
In 2011 the band left the Def Jam label and went on hiatus to focus on their individual solo careers and never reunited. Tulisa took on a judging role on the eighth edition of The X Factor, while her cousin Dappy released her solo single ‘No Regrets’.
As a member of the group, Tulisa has won five MOBO.Awards, one BRIT Award nomination, two Urban Music Award nominations, two platinum-certified albums, one gold-certified album, three silver-certified singles, and more.
